I was afforded the unique opportunity to read a few books written and compiled by Rayne Hall. Rayne Hall offered some of the books in the collection to me for no cost, in exchange for an honest review. The first book that I chose to read from her selections from the "Ten Tales" anthology series was Haunted: Ten Tales Of Ghosts. This was a perfect choice with the upcoming Halloween season, and I for one love reading books that leave me a little spooked.
Within this book are 10 short stories from ten very talented authors. Each story much different than the next, that is what kept me intrigued from beginning to the very end. This collection differs in aspects like the authors are not meaning to outright terrify you with their stories, they chose a more softer scare. In all honesty this is the worst kind of scare- the scare that overtakes you because of the overall feeling of "What if" questions that arise, or the fact that you wonder "Is this possibly true?".
This 83 page book of short stories will surely have you choosing a couple to be your favorites. My favorites ended up being the first story, Ghosts Can Bleed. This is because this was the one story that caught me off guard at the end. My second favorite in this collection is Take Me To St. Roch’s. This short story left me with vivid images as I read each word, I felt as if I were actually living the story being portrayed.
Here are the ten titles that you will come across in the Haunted:Ten Tales Of Ghosts-
Ghosts Can Bleed by Tracie McBride: Ghosts can bleed. Maurice should know, because he is one. His wife argues with “You need to see a psychiatrist”. In the end find out who is right.
Dancers by William Meikle: A country graveyard in winter can be made warm. Warning you only hurt the ones you love or obsess over in this case. Come and stalk Sarah in the moonlight as she awaits her own true love to come home, in secret view of the man whom loves her.
Breakwater Beach by Carole Ann Moleti: Ever felt that you've been somewhere before? Perhaps you have. See how Liz deals with her past, as well as her future in the newly bought home she wants to renovate and dwell.
The Piano Man by Kiersten Hartrim: No one has played the old upright piano in the bar since the Lady Pianist died. What fate lead to the beautiful Lady Pianists death? Does she want revenge? Does she get revenge? What is her story?
Take Me To St. Roch’s by Rayne Hall: Never pick up hitchhikers. And if you ever are a hitchhiker be sure to mind your manners, especially if you need to cash in on some pretty big favors for this ride.
The Explanation For Ghosts by Douglas Kolacki: Forget everything you've ever heard about what they are.
Mother Mine by April Grey: A mother's love never dies. But a daughters love just might have its limits!
The Mine Shaft by Sera Hayes: Curiosity leading superstition digs an early grave for one man. Be careful of what one thinks is superstition…
Dark Reunion by Jonathan Broughton: Love sours when you commit murder.
Has his forbidden love come back to be held in his arms?
A Puddle Of Dead by Grayson Bray Morris: Her long-lost love is back... or is he? Is this just a one last passionate encounter after years apart?
I would recommend this book for almost anyone, especially for someone that likes to read a quick story without having hundreds of pages to go through or many characters to wait to have be developed. Each of the short stories can take anywhere from five to twenty minutes to read, easily this can be finished in one night. You can easily check it out for purchase of only 99¢ by heading over to Amazon.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
