I was excited to try out this Cook'n Recipe Organizer, because I thought in would integrate well with a Home Economics Unit that I was planning. The Cook'n Organizer was more than I expected!

My kids were able to easily search within the program and find a few recipes that they wanted to try out. They also had the chance to put ingredients into Cook'n and see what dinner results came up.

They were able to easily put together a shopping list of ingredients that needed to be bought. There are menu templates of your choice (day, week, month, and even 3-months). I was amazed that I hardly had to help at all.

Upon receiving the Cook'n Recipe Organizer we were able to choose and download a free E-Cookbook that the website offers. The kids had a hard time choosing only one from the hundred that were available. The E-Cookbooks are reasonably priced from anywhere to .99 to as high as $25.00.

In the end the kids and I decided that the best choice would be the "Taste of Home Family Favorites". I still pick up issues of the magazine when I find them, so we were all familiar with the selection of recipes that the cookbook would offer.

The Taste of Home Family Favorites cookbook easily loaded and merged with the Cook'n Recipe Organizer. Within a few minutes we had another great selection of menu possibilities.

The first recipe the kids tried was from the pre-installed recipes of the Cook'n Organizer, they made the Breakfast Brunch Casserole. This was fairly short in its ingredient list and simple in its steps.

Breakfast Brunch Casserole

Serves 5

Ingredients:

1 pound potato- cooked, peeled, and diced
1 pound Ham, diced
8 boiled eggs, diced
2 Tablespoons Parsley
2 Tablespoons Onions
1/2 pound Cheddar Cheese, diced
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup Flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 cup Sour Cream

Bake at 375, for 30-40 minutes. Serve!

The kids did go in and edit the recipe, which is a fantastic feature. They were able to save their own way of making this. It was still easy to put together, just combine and dump into a baking dish. The alterations they made were instead of the ham, they used bacon and they chose to use scrambled eggs instead of boiled. We also used fresh chopped onions, as they did not exactly specify that in the recipe.

The kids are going to be trying out recipes from the Taste of Home Family Favorites this coming week. (I am hoping I can get a picture taken of the result before they all dig in to it).
