Inspire Learning A New Language With Whistlefritz

Our family received the Whistlefritz full Spanish DVD program at no cost,  to help facilitate the following review. However, the opinions in our review are honest and our own.

You are easily able to enrich your Spanish instruction with the award-winning, multi-media Educator’s Collection from Whistlefritz. This Educator’s Collection provides a rich and diverse set of tools for Pre-K and early elementary Spanish teachers and homeschoolers. Developed by creative and experienced educators, Spanish Lesson Plans for Kids is a scaffolded curriculum of 40 reproducible lessons that engage children in a diverse array of interactive, age-appropriate activities.
The Matching Cards are a playful introduction to action words. Packed with fun, laughter, and music, the Educator’s Collection is a treasure trove of teaching activities and materials for the Spanish classroom! The matching game not only kept the kids engaged with learning Spanish, they also reinforced what they had been learning. I enjoy curriculums that add this layer learning or scaffolding learning. The workbook is full of instructional material, as well as simple activities that also helps encourage learning.

Spanish for Kids DVDs teach vocabulary through an appealing blend of live action and animation ideal for visual learners. The Spanish for Kids CDs get children on their feet singing and dancing to an irresistible mix of Latin songs and rhythms. Each DVD includes a book that allows one to find both the Spanish & English words that will be reviewed.

This boxed set includes 5 DVDs:

[Los Animales (Animals)
Vamos a Jugar (Let's Play)
Adentro y Afuera (Inside and Out)
Las Estaciones (The Seasons)
La Fiesta de Fritzi (Fritzi's Party)

2 CDs:
A Bailar! Let's Dance!
Cha, Cha, Cha Spanish Learning Songs.

I have been introducing the idea of a Spanish curriculum into our homeschool studies for some time. This is what first attracted me to Whistelfritz. The complete program exceeded my expectations by far. The curriculum itself uses the immersion technique, this is where the DVD is played only in Spanish. Besides being able to keep my kids entertained, even I became excited when I began figuring out what was being said. The more you watch-the more you pick up, almost to the point that you no longer realize that another language is being spoken.

The thing that you have to remember is that this not typical teach your child a bunch of words in a different language. This is meant for you to start making the connections on your own, and then begin learning the words in another language. This would not be a good fit for someone who wants their children to learn another language the traditional way- with a list of words, pictures w/words, etc. Think of it as a program that teaches children the exact way that they learned their native language to begin with. We were not born speaking and Whistlefritz has taken that example and created a program based on this technique.

I would recommend this for anyone that is interested in learning Spanish, especially children between 1 to 7 years of age. My 3 year old was able to pick up a few of the words within 10 minutes of watching the first DVD.
