Book Review: Hidden Under Her Heart By Rachelle Ayala

Maryanne Torres has sworn off sex. Intent on finding a marrying man, she joins a church youth group. A party at her pastor’s house turns into a drinking binge, and Maryanne is raped.

Lucas Knight’s only concern was winning the Ironman Triathlon until the morning he finds Maryanne unconscious in the church parking lot. He becomes the prime suspect, even though Maryanne cannot identify her attacker.

Maryanne wants justice but the identity of her rapist is hidden in the baby she plans to abort. A trap is set. Lucas races to clear his name and keep Maryanne’s secret from drowning her and her baby.

My Reaction: While this book does touch upon some very tough topics, such as a rape {scene not described}, abortion {still has a pro-life slant as whole throughout the book}, and one pretty steamy sex scene. It should not deter anyone from reading this wonderful story. Rachelle Ayala has quickly become a favorite author of mine, first with her novel Knowing Vera and then with this book. Hidden Under Her Heart is a story that teaches us about "growing up", even when faced with horrible circumstances. Teaches us that finding the truth is never an easy task, especially when it comes to something that is THIS important to the characters involves.

There is a fair share of foul language at the beginning of the novel, this decreases tremendously towards the end. I enjoyed the way that the characters developed from the beginning to the very end. I hope that any avid reader gives this a chance that this book certainly deserves. The adage of "You can't judge a book by its cover {or description in this case} is very very  true.

Thanks for your wonderful review. I deleted the love scene in question and replaced it with some discussion about waiting (as of Nov 5). Amazon sent an update notice.

Point taken. It was distracting and not the main message of the story. The characters do grow a lot and I'm glad you're happy with the ending.

thanks again, Rachelle
